Disclosure. openProd publishes this page, and openProd is one of the tools compared. Every other tool is described only with what its vendor states publicly, with a link to the source. Checked on 13 October 2026. If a vendor’s page has changed since, tell us and we will update the entry.
The short answer. If your suppliers agree to fill your template, a supplier portal inside your PIM or MDM (Akeneo Supplier Data Manager, Salsify SXM, Stibo, Syndigo) gives you control at the source. If suppliers keep sending their own PDFs and spreadsheets, an AI onboarding layer in front of your PIM (openProd, SKULaunch, Rastro, Anglera, Claro) reads those files and maps them to your model. If you are choosing a PIM anyway, AI-first PIMs (Hypotenuse AI, ainavio, WISEPIM) bundle onboarding with the catalogue.
What product data onboarding is
Product data onboarding is the work of getting product information from suppliers into your own catalogue. A supplier sends a data sheet, a price list or a specification spreadsheet. Someone has to read it, match every value to your attributes, units and codes, decide what is uncertain and save the result to your PIM or ERP. It happens before enrichment, translation or publishing.
Two other things share the name. Supplier onboarding in procurement registers a new vendor (company, tax, bank and compliance data); tools like SAP Ariba or Coupa cover it. User onboarding guides people through a software product. Neither touches product data, and this comparison leaves them out.
Four kinds of tools
- Supplier portals inside a PIM or MDM. Suppliers log in, upload files or fill a template, and validation rules check the data at the source. The data then lands in the vendor’s own platform, sometimes in other systems too.
- AI onboarding layers in front of your PIM. Your team (or a supplier) drops in the files suppliers already send. AI reads them, maps values to your existing model and hands the checked result to the PIM or ERP you keep.
- AI-first PIMs with an onboarding module. A new PIM whose supplier intake is built in. Onboarding and the catalogue come together.
- General file importers and feed platforms. Tools built for any incoming file or for channel feeds, with product catalogues as one use case.
Many teams also rely on their PIM’s own import. We cover that at the end, because it is the baseline every tool above competes with.
How we compared
We looked at what a PIM or catalogue manager asks first, and only at what each vendor states on its own site or in its own documentation:
- Files in: which formats the tool says it reads (PDF, spreadsheets, text, images, API, portal).
- Where data lands: the vendor’s own platform, or the PIM, ERP or shop you already run.
- Review before saving: whether a person approves uncertain values before anything is written.
- Source per value: whether you can see where a single value came from.
We did not test the tools hands-on, and we do not repeat vendors’ speed or accuracy figures. “Not stated” means we found no public statement, not that the feature is missing.

AI onboarding layers in front of your PIM
These tools keep your PIM as the place where products live and work on the step before it.
openProd
openProd reads supplier PDFs, spreadsheets and pasted text, maps every value to the attributes, units and dictionary codes of your own data model and asks your team only about what is uncertain. A weight read as 0.09 kg is saved as 90 if your attribute expects grams, and every value keeps a link to the page or row it came from (Show in source). Clear values pass; conversions and values your model has no attribute for wait for a decision. A preview separates new products from updates, and nothing is written until someone clicks Save to catalog. Before the AI analysis starts, openProd shows the credit estimate, and it runs only after you accept it.
Suppliers keep sending what they send today: your team uploads the files or pastes the text. For handing data on, openProd has a Pimcore connector (listed in the Pimcore Store) and an Ergonode connector that reads your Ergonode model and sends only what fits it. For Akeneo and other systems, the connection is agreed with your team and tested in a pilot. AI assistants can work with the catalogue through the MCP server, and the app runs on a documented REST API. openProd is built by LemonMind in Gdańsk, Poland; each workspace runs in a private cloud with the hosting region agreed per installation.
Fits: teams on Pimcore, Ergonode or Akeneo whose suppliers send their own files, and who want every value checked against their model before it reaches the PIM. See AI import and the tutorials.
SKULaunch
SKULaunch calls itself an AI product data platform for distributors and retailers. It takes CSV, Excel, PDF, images, URLs, raw text, supplier portal submissions and an API, and its integrations page names Akeneo (two-way sync), Plytix and inRiver, ERPs such as SAP and NetSuite, and shops and marketplaces including Shopify, Magento and Mirakl. An onboarding and approval workflow is part of every plan, and ETIM, GS1 and BMEcat are named. It is also listed on the Akeneo app marketplace. skulaunch.com, integrations
Fits: distributors and retailers on Akeneo or a commerce stack who want onboarding, enrichment and a supplier portal in one service.
Rastro
Rastro describes itself as “AI for Catalog Operations” for manufacturers and distributors. It reads supplier feeds, Excel, CSV, PDF spec tables and product URLs. Its Akeneo integration reads families through the API, converts units for measurement attributes and gives catalog managers a supplier portal where they review data before publishing. Values are cited, and the API returns citations. It also names Salsify, Stibo, Syndigo, Shopify and NetSuite, plus BMEcat export. Files are processed on AWS in the UK or EU. rastro.ai, Akeneo integration, security
Fits: Akeneo users who want a supplier portal with AI mapping and cited values.
Anglera
Anglera offers an AI agent that onboards and enriches product data. It reads ERP exports, supplier sheets, PDFs such as spec sheets and manuals, images and manufacturer websites, normalises values to your schema and writes back to your ERP or PIM. Every value is shown with its source, and values below a confidence threshold are queued for review. Its site lists Akeneo, Salsify, inRiver, Stibo, Pimcore and SAP among the systems its customers work with. anglera.com, how it works
Fits: distributors and manufacturers who want enrichment from documents and the web, with a source on every value.
Claro
Claro positions itself as an operating system for product and supplier data, starting with industrial catalogues. Its homepage shows a supplier PDF price list being matched, classified and enriched; every match and attribute carries its source and a confidence score, and uncertain or high-impact changes go to a reviewable batch before anything is written back to your ERP or PIM. No connector is named. getclaro.ai
Fits: industrial distributors who want matching against their existing catalogue with reviewable batches.
PIMplify
PIMplify calls itself an AI layer on top of existing PIMs rather than a PIM replacement, focused on copywriting and attribute extraction. It takes Excel, CSV, manufacturer XML, BMEcat and API-synced catalogues, harmonises schemas across suppliers and units, and returns enriched columns or syncs back. It names Akeneo, inRiver, Pimcore, Salsify, Plytix, Stibo, Informatica and Shopify. A one-row preview and a visual diff come before a batch. pimplify.com, supplier data
Fits: e-commerce teams with structured supplier files who mainly need enrichment and harmonisation.
Supplier portals and onboarding modules inside a PIM or MDM
These tools ask suppliers to work in a portal, or bring documents straight into the vendor’s own platform.
Akeneo Supplier Data Manager
Akeneo’s Supplier Data Manager gives suppliers a web portal where they upload their own files or fill a template set by the retailer or distributor. It imports structured files (XLS, CSV, XML) with assets, and since March 2026 can create jobs from a CSV or Excel file sent by email (beta). AI classifies products, extracts missing attributes from text fields and images, and suggests column mappings with confidence scores; low-confidence values are flagged for review, and submissions run through approval workflows. Akeneo says no Akeneo PIM is needed: it can feed another PIM, an ERP or a pricing system. PDF as a data source is not stated. Supplier Data Manager, what’s new
Fits: retailers and distributors who can ask suppliers to use a portal and template.
Salsify SXM
Salsify SXM (formerly Alkemics SupplierXM) lets suppliers onboard directly to the retailer’s Salsify portal, with automated feedback against the retailer’s schema and validation rules, at no cost to the supplier. It also takes data from the GDSN data pool and offers managed services. Validation rules block errors at the source, and retailer users review changes to critical fields. AI is described as suggestions that help suppliers improve data quality. Supplier onboarding, automation
Fits: retailers with many suppliers, especially in grocery and consumer goods, who already use Salsify.
Inriver Content Onboarding
Inriver’s spring 2026 release added a Content Onboarding API for data from ERP, PLM and suppliers, and onboarding of unstructured documents (PDF, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with AI extraction and field mapping. A final human review step comes before data is committed, and the data goes into Inriver. Spring 2026 release, release notes
Fits: manufacturers and brands already on Inriver.
Syndigo Vendor Central
Syndigo Vendor Central lets vendors submit product information through APIs, EDI and manual uploads, with AI validation against GDSN, ETIM and retailer-specific rules before submission. It can connect vendor data to an existing PIM, ERP or e-commerce system. Syndigo launched Synapse, an agentic PXM platform with human checkpoints, in March 2026, and bought 1WorldSync in 2025. Vendor Central
Fits: large retailers and distributors who work with GDSN and retailer data standards.
Stibo Systems
Stibo Systems describes agentic onboarding where suppliers send PDFs, spreadsheets, emails, scanned documents and images without a portal template. Attributes and identifiers are extracted with a confidence score on every element; low-confidence elements go to stewardship review, with source context and audit trails kept. Data is mapped to the Stibo Systems platform, which then feeds PIM, ERP and commerce systems. A separate Product Data Onboarding service guides suppliers through data collection. Agentic onboarding, Product Data Onboarding
Fits: enterprises running master data management on Stibo.
Centric PXM (formerly Contentserv)
Centric PXM offers an Onboarding Portal where data enters and AI validates and maps it to your internal model before it reaches the PIM. Centric Software announced its acquisition of Contentserv in 2025. Centric PXM
Fits: multi-brand, multi-region companies choosing Centric PXM.
AI-first PIMs with an onboarding module
Hypotenuse AI
Hypotenuse AI is an AI-first PIM with a supplier portal. Suppliers submit in the format they already use, AI parses PDFs and CSVs, maps fields to your schema, groups variants and classifies products into your taxonomy. Products are scored against your standards; those above your confidence threshold publish automatically and reviewers handle the exceptions, with an audit trail per value. Hypotenuse says the portal can also feed a PIM you keep. Supplier data management, AI attribute mapping
Fits: retailers and brands who want supplier intake and content generation in one system.
ainavio
ainavio is an “agentic PIM” from Germany with a Supplier Data Agent. It reads Excel, CSV, PDF catalogues and data sheets, XML and JSON feeds, converts units, and maps supplier data into its own PIM, which then feeds ERPs such as JTL and Business Central, shops such as Shopify and Shopware, and marketplaces. ainavio.com, PDF import
Fits: German-speaking mid-market retailers and wholesalers looking for a new PIM.
WISEPIM
WISEPIM is an AI engine for product catalogues that works as a PIM or beside one. It reads CSV, Excel, XML, APIs and URLs, connects directly to Akeneo and to other PIMs by file, and has approval workflows and quality rules that block bad exports. wisepim.com, AI PIM extension
Fits: wholesalers and webshops who want enrichment and translation with an Akeneo link.
General file importers and feed platforms
WeTransform is an embeddable AI import platform for B2B software. It maps, cleans and validates incoming client and partner files (its homepage lists Excel, CSV, XML, JSON and PDF), every AI suggestion can be reviewed before it is applied, and data is hosted in the EU. Product catalogues are one use case among many. wetransform.com
ProductFlight cleans, transforms and delivers product data from email attachments, CSV, Excel, PDF, APIs and FTP to shops, marketplaces and GS1 data pools; it is a GS1 solution partner and EU hosted. productflight.io
Productsup, a feed management platform, offers supplier onboarding with an AI Automapper for supplier attributes. Supplier onboarding
The baseline: your PIM’s own import
- Pimcore Data Importer reads uploads, HTTP, SFTP, push endpoints and SQL, in CSV, JSON, XML and XLSX, with a mapping editor and live preview. AI import is not part of it. Data Importer docs
- Ergonode imports XLS files through a mapper and exchanges CSV packages through Ergonode Transfer. Its AI Complete can use an uploaded PDF to fill missing attributes. Features
- Plytix imports CSV feeds and fills text attributes with AI Autofill from a prompt. Features
- Sales Layer imports spreadsheets and adds AI classification and business-rule validation through its AI Suite. saleslayer.com
A built-in import works when suppliers send clean, structured files that already match your model. The tools above exist for everything else.
Which fits your setup
- Suppliers will use your template or portal: a supplier portal in your PIM or MDM (Akeneo SDM, Salsify SXM, Syndigo, Stibo).
- Suppliers send their own PDFs and spreadsheets, and you keep your PIM: an AI onboarding layer (openProd, SKULaunch, Rastro, Anglera, Claro).
- You run Pimcore or Ergonode: check for a named connector. In this comparison openProd names both, PIMplify and Hypotenuse AI name Pimcore.
- You are replacing your PIM anyway: compare AI-first PIMs (Hypotenuse AI, ainavio, WISEPIM) with your shortlist.
- Your files are already structured and clean: start with your PIM’s own import.
How to test a tool on your own files
Bring three real files to every demo: a supplier PDF data sheet, a spreadsheet with the supplier’s own column names, and a product email. Then check:
- Do values land on your attributes, units and option codes, or on a generic template?
- Can you open the place in the file where a value came from?
- What happens to values your model has no attribute for?
- Is a unit conversion shown before it is saved?
- What exactly is written to your catalogue, and when?
- Who may approve, and is the approval recorded?
We published a method for estimating manual onboarding cost if you need a business case. For how PIM vendors approach AI more broadly, see the vendor AI arms race.
Sources and updates
Update, 19 October 2026: Akeneo and Inriver both announced on 15 October 2026 that Gartner named them Leaders in the 2026 Magic Quadrant for Product Information Management Solutions. Akeneo’s release describes Akeneo Product Cloud as bringing together PIM, supplier data onboarding, digital asset management and product activation. Inriver’s release mentions importing unstructured sources such as PDFs and brochures directly into the Inriver data model. Supplier data intake is now part of both platforms; the Akeneo and Inriver entries above still describe what each module does. Sources: Akeneo release, Inriver release.
